Edible Dormouse
Key Facts About Edible Dormice
It was accidentally introduced to the town of Tring in England through an escape from Lionel Walter Rothschild's private collection. As a result, the British Edible Dormouse population, now 10,000 strong, is concentrated in a 200-square-mile triangle between Beaconsfield, Aylesbury and Luton. They are not present in Scotland.
They prefer mature woodlands where they inhabit tree holes and will build tree nests similar to Squirrel dreys. Edible Dormice also readily enter lofts of houses and garden sheds where they can cause considerable damage and nuisance.
